Opinion

I personally like this ad by Spotify because the headline is literally so straightforward, which makes it funny yet still effective. This is a very interesting approach to garner audiences’ attention as this ad contains honesty and humor at the same time. The body copy of the ad was a very ‘Gen Z’ move too. They used an actual Spotify user’s tweet to promote their ‘DiscoverWeekly’ playlist which is smart and unique.

Copy Strategy

The style of the headline uses ‘honesty’ and ‘straightforwardness’ as its copy strategy. The truthful headline makes it acceptable especially to their targeted demographic, millennials. Headlines these days can be too ‘cringey’ but this one by Spotify does not seem like it’s trying too hard and aligns with millennials’ sense of humour. The body copy of the ad uses the ‘honesty’ approach as well. By using an actual customer’s tweet, it makes Spotify seem reliable and truthful- letting the tweet/review speak for itself.

Reimagined Copy

Headline: Okay, here’s an ad.

Body Copy: “Why am I just learning about your DiscoverWeekly playlist, @Spotify??? You should def promote it more tbh.” @thisiscoll
